If you’ve lost one of the molars in the back of your mouth it can significantly impair your ability to chew and grind food. In time the missing tooth can also cause the nearby teeth to twist and move slightly toward the void. This can cause alignment issues as well as chips and fractures on these teeth.

One of the most effective methods Dr. Monila Reheman recommends for restoring a missing molar is to have a dental implant installed. Then a crown can be mounted on top of it.

The implant is inserted into your jaw during a single outpatient appointment, requiring deep sedation. This requires an oral surgeon to make a small incision in the gums to gain direct access the underlying bone.

They will then make a narrow channel into the bone and screw a titanium abutment into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will eventually fuse with natural bone tissues to provide a strong anchor for an eventual crown.

Once the titanium abutment has fully fused with the surrounding bone tissues Dr. Monila Reheman can go about the standard practice of installing the crown onto the abutment. Most crown molars are made from durable gold or base metal alloys.
